Dealing with the Unknown
August 13th, 2008
Ooh, how do you deal with the unknown – it can be so scary! Why is it that we typically fear the unknown? Heaven is unknown, and yet we, Christians, don’t seem to fear Heaven – we look forward to it! We do seem to fear death, but not Heaven. Perhaps it’s because we are of Heaven. We’re not living, or even dying, human beings – we’re living spiritual beings dying to get home to Heaven!!! It’s the journey that’s unknown, and that can be scary. But the Lord says ‘Fear not, for I am with you always’. I wonder if the best way to deal with the unknown is not to, but rather to simply deal with the known (here & now), leaving the unknown (future) to our Heavenly Father… Sounds good to me! (I just wish that was easy to do, huh?!?!)

I was reading a poem about the death of a child in which GOD was telling the parents something like…”your prayer said THY WILL BE DONE”. I think it is sometimes hard to let go of control but as christians are we really in control. When you lose a loved one you wonder if they are in Heaven or will I ever get to see them again. Faith requires that you give all control to GOD although we may not like what is happening or understand but He is in control. Death is scary to me for it is a journey in which you do not return yet all of us must take. Our son’s death has been an eye-opener to the fact that if you live in fear of death then you miss out on life. He was with us only 5 months but boy did we live those months and we have no doubt that he is now playing in GOD’s Garden without struggle and in total joy. Boy we are packing our bags and have our tickets purchased to take that trip where we will see him again.

Control – hm… Are we ever really in control – hm… Well, do we give Christ control, our life, or control of our life? I see those as three different things – here’s the way I see it. I believe God gives us life (twice), and in the meantime, He gives us control of our life – then we, as Christians, give control of our life back to him – it’s like we’re delegating! Think of the car as your life – instead of driving with God in the passenger seat… wouldn’t it be better if you sat there and had Him drive? It’s still your car, which He gave you. And when it finally has run out of gas and dies, He’ll trade you up into a brand new car! In fact, He already made the trade – He traded Himself!!!!!!!
Now… about death being a journey… Here’s the way I choose to look at it – ponder this… Death isn’t the journey from where we never return. Life is the journey from where we do return, home to God, the giver of our life, where we started! I believe life is the vacation, which includes many detours – like grief – and then we get to return home, to Heaven – so glad to return home – ah… Home Sweet Home!!! And that’s where our loved ones are waiting for our homecoming, and it shall be glorious!!!
