It's not where you end up…

One of my favorite sayings is ‘It’ll be okay in the end – if it’s not ok, then it’s not the end’! Say you have a kid whose going thru a hard time – so hard in fact, that you may need to send him to a Boarding School – not necessarily for discipline – perhaps it’s structured counseling he needs – he doesn’t wanna go, but you know it’s best – you think this reality may just motivate him to ‘come around’, to ‘straighten out’, to whatever… and in desparation, you say to this child (who thinks he’s all grown up and knows what’s best for himself), “If you don’t (fill in the blank), you’re gonna end up in Boarding School”.
But you know what… I’ve been thinking about that… let’s say you really do send this kid – this teenager – to Boarding School… that’s not where he ‘ends up’ – it’s not ‘the end’ – in fact, it’s surely a new beginning!!! In reality, it’s a pivotal point in his life – a very important pivotal point, which will surely effect the rest of his life. And you, as ‘parent’… you better pick the right Boarding School – you gotta get this one right – you can’t afford to be wrong about this – in reality, this ‘intervention’ better be the right answer for his challenges – for his struggles. I heard a good one a few yrs ago and I’ve always remembered it… ‘When you’re at a pivotal point in your life, be sure to pivot on the right foot’! That’s right – we wanna get it right – when it’s time to pivot, pivot on the right foot! Pivot on the right road, in the right way, etc.
And remember… a troubled child doesn’t end up in Boarding School – no! A child helped by just the right Boarding School ends up succeeding in life!!!
