It’s set in stone!

Friday, May 29th, 2009

Boy, talk about reality…  Today, Yvonne’s cemetery marker was set in place – it’s just as I pictured it – I’m very pleased with how it looks.  She had never – not one time – mentioned her idea of how it oughta look, so as for the design of it, I was on my own just as I am now with everything else.  It sits next to her parents’ marker, and she/we helped her mom in designing that, so I took my cues from there – I think they look nice together, and I hope she would be pleased.  ‘Course, it’s kinda weird looking at it, because my name’s on it too – hello reality!  Yes, it’s set in stone – granite to be exact.

WE REMEMBER WITH GRATEFUL HEARTS

Idle work…

Saturday, May 23rd, 2009

I saw a sign the other day, which read ’steady work is the best killer of time’.  I must agree of course – I don’t guess anyone could disagree with that, but it did get me to thinkin… if we keep going – keep working – steadily, it’s surely easier to keep our life in balance.  Just think about it as compared to riding a bike… if you keep on rollin along, you’ll stay in balance – it’s when you idle that you get off balance.  So… I really think we oughta just keep on a rollin along!

Mother’s Day

Thursday, May 14th, 2009

I am so sorry I missed the opportunity to blog on Mother’s Day.  I’ve been experiencing frustrating technical difficulties.  I’m finally up and running now, and it seems too ‘after the fact’ to blog about Mother’s Day at this point.  Instead, I want to share a new word I heard the other day, SURTHRIVE, which speaks for itself – just think about it…

The Kentucky Derby

Saturday, May 2nd, 2009

I love watching The Kentucky Derby and dream of being there sometime!  Today’s Kentucky Derby has me glued to the TV.  I’ve been sitting here in my Lazy-Boy watching all the fanfare, and it occurred to me; there are similarities between The Kentucky Derby and funerals, specifically traditional funerals.  People get all dressed up – the ladies even wear hats like ladies used to.  My wife used to wear hats on special occasions – I loved that.  One of my sisters-in-law wore a hat to Yvonne’s funeral, which she woulda loved!  There are so many traditions, like those famous Mint Juleps, the bugle call, etc.  It’s like a ritual.  I mean… can you even imagine The Kentucky Derby without these things?  There’s that captivating pomp & circumstance much like a good, traditional funeral.

Once in a while, someone will tell me that funerals aren’t what they used to be – that they don’t even feel like they’ve been to a funeral.  When that happens, it’s because it lacks ritual – it lacks traditional elements – it lacks pomp & circumstance.  There really is a lot to be said for ritual.

‘And they’re off!’  Oops, gotta go – it started!  I wonder which horse will win… remember; the winner gets a traditional blanket of roses much like a casket spray of roses!  That always kinda tops it off, huh?  Just one more thing; those beautiful twin spires reminds me of all the beautiful church steeples!
