Do you know the difference?

Sunday, June 28th, 2009

Do you know the difference between a funeral and a memorial service?  The deceased human remains (‘the body’) is present for a funeral, but not for a memorial service.  If you attend a memorial service, it could be that the body was cremated, or it could be that there was a private burial prior to the service – usually immediately prior to…

Father’s Day

Wednesday, June 17th, 2009

I don’t know what it is not to have my dad, but from my experience, having lost my wife, I want to encourge those of you who are approaching Father’s Day for the first time without your dad.  I have found that the few days leading up to a special day, like Father’s Day, are tougher than the actual day itself.  We’re almost there – hang in there – it’ll be okay!  If any of you would like to write about your father on this website, please feel free…

A Light Touch

Monday, June 15th, 2009

I’m sorry I haven’t written until now – I took a few days off – some vacation time in Oklahoma.  While away, I visited a museum with some pretty special western art.  Some attracted me more than others and I wondered why.  I’m more attracted to paintings depicting a touch of light, perhaps a sunrise or sunset – perhaps a candle flame or lantern…  I thought of the saying, ‘beauty is in the eye of the beholder’, and began to think about how there had to be a creator of each piece of art in that museum.  A gifted human being created each painting, and to do so, he/she must have felt inspired.  I thought about how each artist represented in the museum had to have been created by the Creator of Light & Life and all good things such as grace, forgiveness, healing, comfort, support, direction, provider, and the list goes on and on…  You and I were also created by that same Creator we call God, and He gifted each of us in such ways that if we were to use our gift/s to help others, He would surely be pleased.  Think today, about your gift/s – by that, I mean… the very thing/s you’ve always just somehow known how to do – that which comes naturally to you.  My prayer is that this ‘blog’ somehow inspires you to use your gift/s to help others – we all need a light touch from another beautiful human being.  Decide today to let His light shine through!

Today’s the day

Today is the second anniversary of Yvonne’s death.  It’s amazing how memories come flooding my mind and heart.  I can remember so much – it’s hard to believe I’ve actually been through ‘that’!  But we gotta just keep putting one foot in front of the other.  On these special days, I wanna make ‘em special in some way – are you like that?  It seems wrong to treat it just as any other day – it’s not just any other day – it’s a day for special memories.  Of course I’ll go out to the cemetery – not sure what else – probably out for a nice dinner – a nice, casual dinner.  Perhaps some of you have an anniversary coming up, or perhaps you’ve just had one – how do you handle those special days – what works for you?  Do you plan something, or do you wait to see what you feel like doing?  I wish you’d share what works…
